Developed by Jim Myers at Oregon State University. Indigo Rose Tomato was claimed to be the first really dark purple tomato. According to Jim Meyers, Indigo Rose is the first tomato in the world that has anthocyanins in its fruit (a naturally occurring and beneficial to health antioxidant found in blueberries.) Definitely a novelty tomato worth trying.
Our Indigo Rose Cherry Tomato has been adapted to grow in a hydroponic system which will mean a stronger and more prolific plant if you grow it in hydroponic, aeroponic, or aquaponic system like the Tower Garden FLEX. We do not recommend this variety for indoors unless you have an extra-large grow light set-up — it's footprint is definitely not conducive to the Aerogarden or Zip Grow — we recommend to instead opt to grow outdoors during the warm season (nights above 65ºF) for optimum production.
We especially love these tomatoes on salads, to use on tomato galettes, ferment, or dry excess harvest in a dehydrator to use on mini pizzas as sun-dried tomatoes or freeze to use in tomato soups throughout the winter months, and the list goes on!
